V dubnu 2011 jsem opustil svůj dům poblíž Vancouveru v Canadě a vydal se na cestu přes Spojené státy do Evropy. Po tom, co jsem v průběhu 2 měsíců navštívil okolo 20 měst, začal jsem toužit po příjemném a klidném místě v přírodě.

Trasa mé cesty vedla přes Norimberg do Prahy a proto jsem se rozhodl nalézt klidné místo pro relaxaci mezi těmito dvěmi městy. Jedním z kandidátů byl Cham, Bavorské město obklopené zelenými kopci se spoustou turistických tras a jezer.

Po prozkoumání nabídky hotelů v okolí jsem se rozhodl pro Hotel Schmidbräu (http://www.hotel-schmidbraeu.de/), ležící severně od Chamu ve městě Waldmünchen (lesní Mnichov).

S rezervací přes booking.com jsem zaplatil okolo $300 CAD (cca 5200 Kč) za týdenní pobyt. Cena byla pravděpodobně tak úžasně nízká také proto, že jsem svůj pobyt zarezervoval mimo hlavní sezonu, kdy v hotelu nebylo mnoho lidí.

Hodně cestuji a přenocoval jsem již ve spoustě hotelů, ale musím říci, že v cenové kategirii do $100/noc (1740 Kč/noc) mi nejlepší ubytování poskytl právě Hotel Schmidbräu!

Místní personal byl neuvěřitelně ochotný a to dokonce i před tím, než jsem na místo dorazil a pobyt zaplatil. Poskytli mi totiž veškeré informace o možnosti dopravy z Norimberku.

Po mém příjezdu se však vše ještě zlepšilo. Všichni byli velmi přijemní, chápaví, ochotní a pozorní.
Jednou se mi stalo, že jsem zaspal a nestihl tak snídani. Když jsem přišel do restaurace, Petra, která mě obsluhovala, mi položila otázku, zda bych si přál příští ráno servírovat snídani přimo do pokoje v pozdějších hodinách, než je obvyklá doba.
Petra následujícího rána dostála svého slibu a doručila mi snídani přímo do pokoje. Chtěl jsem jí dát za tuto službu spropitné, ale ONA ODMÍTLA.

I ostatní personál byl však fantastický! Mirka, Elizabeth, Martina i kuchař, jehož jmého jsem se bohužel nikdy nenaučil.

Domnívám se, že Kanaďané a Američané by tento hotel milovali! Tady se ke mně hotelový personál choval tak, jako v žádném jiném hotelu stejné cenové kategorie v Kanadě nebo Spojených státech. Stejný personál se v hotelích Severní Ameriky chová stroze a hrubě a proto byl pro mě pobyt v hotelu Schmidbräu příjemnou změnou.

I přesto, že jedním z důvodů, proč mi všichni vyšli tolik vstříc, byla malá obsazenost hotelu, domnívám se, že spokojenost hostů je zde na prvnímí místě a tak mohu s čistým svědomím tento hotel dopručit!

Pokud chcete jet do Bavorska a to ne jen za krásou zdejších měst, ale i za přírodou, jeďte do Waldmünchenu a zastavte se v Hotelu Schmidbräu. Pro mě to byla úžásná zkušenost, která učinila můj návrat do Kanady o něco těžší!

Tip: pokud jedete na pracovní cestu nebo potřebujete hotelový internet, ujistěte se dopředu, že tato služba na vašem pokoji bude, protože ne všechny pokoje internet mají.

In April of 2011 I left my home near Vancouver, Canada to take a trip through the United States and into Europe. After visiting about a dozen cities over the course of two months I began to desire a destination with a more pleasant and quiet natural setting.
As my itinerary took me through Nuremberg and then on to Prague I decided to find a place to rest and relax in between those two cities and one candidate was the town of Cham in Bavaria, a large town surrounded my green rolling hills, lakes, and hiking trails.

After researching the hotels in the area I settled on one called Hotel Schmidbrau (http://www.hotel-schmidbraeu.de/) just north of Cham in a town called Waldmunchen (Forest Munich). The rates were low with booking.com as I paid about $300 CAD for a week long stay. I believe I booked at a time where the hotel was not very busy and that's why I got such a fantastic rate.

I have traveled extensively in my life and I have to say that Hotel Schmidbrau was the best hotel I've ever stayed in for less than $100/night. The room was spacious, clean, and had cable television but what I liked most about the hotel was the staff.

I think that Canadians and Americans would love this hotel as the staff treated me better than I have ever been treated in a similarly priced hotel in Canada or the USA. I've found customer service agents in hotels in North America to be snarky, abrupt, and rude and staying at Hotel Schmidbrau was such a refreshing difference.

The staff were incredibly helpful even before I paid for my room as they gave me detailed directions on how to get to the hotel from Nuremberg.

But things only improved after I checked in as I always found them to be very pleasant, agreeable, helpful, and thoughtful.
For example, I had free daily breakfast with my stay and missed showing up on time for it on the second day of my visit.

One of the staff members asked why I missed the breakfast and I said I was a sleepy head and just slept too long. I learned her name was Petra and she said she would bring breakfast to my room the next morning at a later hour than when they normally served it.

I think part of the reason she went to such lengths to help me was because the hotel was pretty empty and she was not stretched thin by demands at that time. However their attitude toward their customers is top notch and I have full confidence in recommending the hotel knowing that they will always do what they can to help make someone's stay more enjoyable.

Petra lived up to her promise the next morning at breakfast and when I offered her a tip, SHE REFUSED IT.

The other staff were world class as well whether Mirka, Elizabeth, Martika, or the male cook whose name I never learned.

If you want to go to Bavaria, not just for the cities but for the countryside, make Waldmunchen a stop and Hotel Schmidbrau, for me, was a wonderful and regenerating experience that makes going back to Canada a little harder.

One tip: if you are a business traveler or need Internet with the hotel be sure to advise them ahead of your stay as not all rooms had this feature.
